Are you aware that there is a debate on going for the cancellation or rescheduling of the NIS and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Aptitude test examination nationwide

Rep. Kawu said 190,000 candidates applied for different cadres advertised for Degree, HND, NCE, OND and SSCE holders in the ongoing recruitment exercise by the ministry.
He, however, disclosed that, out of the 190,000 candidates who applied, only 9,460 candidates were invited for the CBAT.

Hafiz Kawu, in his motion he said; “Most Nigerians are not computer literate, therefore, the test was discriminatory against some people. The agencies should instead use the normal handwritten test, instead of the ongoing collaboration with Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).”
He continued by saying; “95 percent of Nigerians are not computer literate. JAMB did not consider those who are not computer literate. They did not provide an alternative for those who are not computer literate, therefore, not providing a level playing field for all.”

He also said, “The computer based test ONLY favoured candidates who can operate computers as the Civil Defence, Federal Fire Service, Immigration and Correctional Services Board (CDFIPB) did not consider citizens who may not be skilled in computer operation by providing an alternative for handwritten examinations in order to provide a level playing ground for all candidates who applied,”
According to Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who spoke against the motion, he said; “Anyone with a Secondary School Certificate which is the minimum qualification should be able to pass the CBT test. If the requirement is SSCE, one would expect such a candidate to be able to participate. We should not be looking back. We should be encouraging even mechanics to have basic knowledge of computers.”

Inconclusively, the House directed the two security outfits (NIS and NSCDC) to conduct another test using the manual process and mandated its Committees on Interior and Federal Character to monitor the recruitment exercise and ensure strict compliance and adherence to the principles of fairness and social justice. This will only happen based on the response that would be given by the House Committees Interior and Federal Character who were mandated to monitor the recruitment and report to the House in 6 weeks.
