Action Against Hunger (Action Contre la Faim – ACF) began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming and looking at the Nutrition for children, pregnant and lactating mothers. In 2011, we expanded our work to begin implementing nutrition development projects in Jigawa and in Yobe. Job Details

  • Action Against Hunger Nigeria Mission is looking for a Health Assistant to join our team in our Yobe office.
  • This person will provide technical support to the  Health Officer for the effective implementation of the health component of the multi-sectoral project, particularly in the management of childhood illness, COVID -19 and CMAM in Bade, Yobe State.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the health officer and respective hospital authorities, conduct training needs assessment for the PHC staff in the respective health facilities on the CMAM and IMNCI.
  • Facilitate and organize training on CMAM and IMNCI for the relevant Health Workers (HWs) based on the findings from the training assessment.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and supervision visits to all Action Against Hunger supported Clinics and CMAM outreaches to ensure good quality of services.
  • Follow up with HWs at the respective Clinics and OTPs to ensure the staff sends the stock reports (medicine and therapeutic products) to the respective authorities on a monthly basis.
  • Assist the health Officer to prepare and organize regular coordination meetings with SNO, relevant hospital authorities, and HWs on the issue of CMAM In-Patient management.
  • Work closely with the HWs in hospitals and OTP sites as well as CVs for an effective follow up of children discharged from the hospitals to the health facilities for a better continuation of the CMAM treatment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Science with a major in Nursing, community health, or Nutrition. 1-year experience in inpatient nutritional treatment essential, IMNCI, and CMAM approach.
  • Must an indigene and reside in Bade or Nguru LGA
  • Previous experiences in CMAM programming.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Update and maintain 5W/4W mapping (Health, and Nutrition sector) tool on a regular basis for the operational LGA, and share with the Sector Health Manager.

Agency Benefits:

  • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Abuja, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

Hiring Preference Selection Process:

  • Applicants in the following hiring preference categories are extended a hiring preference in the order listed below. Therefore, it is essential that these applicants accurately describe their status on the application. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not eligible for a hiring preference.

Hiring Preference Order:

  • AEFM / USEFM who is a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran*
  • AEFM / USEFM
  • FS on LWOP and CS with reemployment rights **

Important

  • Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.  A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
  • ** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
